Card Set No. 16 – Helvetic Treasures

Deep within the rock of the Alps, rock crystals grow over millions of years. Their clear, geometric forms emerge slowly, hidden inside the mountains, until one day they are discovered.

People have been searching for these coveted crystals since antiquity. The Greeks believed rock crystal was water that had frozen so intensely that it could no longer melt. This is where its name comes from: "Krystallos" means ice in Ancient Greek.

In the Middle Ages, quartz was attributed with healing and thirst-quenching powers. Today, what fascinates us most is what can actually be seen inside the crystals: their precise forms, their clarity, and the incredible variety of structures that can develop under seemingly identical conditions.

"Helvetic Treasures" presents rock crystals from the Swiss Alps as small geological treasures—formed over millions of years and now gracing our living spaces as graphic shapes.
