When it gets dark, the leaves of so-called prayer plants begin to move. They fold upwards, sometimes drawing so close together that they resemble folded hands. With the first light of morning, they open again.

This daily movement follows the natural rhythm of the plants. The most well-known prayer plants belong to the Marantaceae family, which originally comes from the tropical regions of the Americas. Their leaves are adorned with fine lines, dots, and geometric patterns—designs that look almost designed rather than grown.

Depending on the species, very different combinations of deep greens, light areas, and delicate leaf veins emerge. In the play of light and shadow, the patterns change their effect. Each leaf appears as its own graphic image, almost hand-drawn and with a highly individual structure.

“Praying Hands” focuses on this unusual connection between movement and pattern: plants whose leaves close every evening and open again every morning. A quiet, daily recurring movement that gave them their name.

The large-format, limited edition art prints are screen-printed by hand in Zurich. The colors are applied individually and carefully layered. This creates intense hues, fine overlaps, and a special depth and vibrancy.
